Institute of
Economic Policies

The main objective of the Institute of Economic Policies (IEP) is the development of scientific knowledge related to the analysis of the structure and functioning of markets, the limitation of regulatory capture, the increasing competition and meritocracy, and the growth in labor productivity of both employees and companies.

Based on this advanced scientific knowledge and the postgraduate degree training, the IEP seeks to provide the tools for the evaluation and design of public policies, to create space for discussion and to spread the art of economic discipline’s state to the academic community and general society.

The institute is attached to the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and currently has 7 members who are all professors at FEB. Its principal is Dr. Miguel Vargas Román.

The mission of the Institute of Economic Policies is to contribute to the economic and social development of the country through advanced academic research, postgraduate training and links with the environment, for which it will seek, among others, partnerships with leading institutes and research centers.

Objectives

The mission of the IEP is to contribute to the economic and social development through research.

The mission of the IEP is to contribute to the economic and social development through advanced academic research, postgraduate training, and environmental connections. To get this, associations with the best investigation centers will be searched. The three main pillars that support the institute’s task are: The Creation of Knowledge, The Quality of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teaching, And Environmental Connections. The objectives of each of these pillars are the following:

Knowledge Creation:

The development of high quality economic, theoretical, and empirical research, and the dissemination of these through the publishing of high-impact academic articles on the institute’s topics of interest.

The awarding of competitive funds for the financing of scientific research.

The organization of academic seminars, workshops, and discussion meetings, in any format or platform.

Quality of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teaching

Teaching economic science and its application to the evaluation and design of public policies at a postgraduate and continuing studies level.

To create a culture of scientific excellence that impacts the training of the FEB’s students and to open a welcoming space for independent research projects.

The creation and enhancement of new postgraduate programs in the field of Economics. Likewise, the institute’s researchers will be included into the postgraduate courses activities that are being taught by the University, developing research units of their specific subjects with the students.

Environmental Connections.

To set cooperation networks with other similar research centers inside and outside the country through agreements.

To publish academic working papers, dissemination articles, books and others that allow sharing knowledge with society.

To organize seminars, workshops, and meetings for discussion and dissemination, in any format or platform.
